India on Wednesday successfully test fired the air-to-surface ‘Rudram’ missile off the Odisha coast. The missile was tested from a Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft. According to a PTI report, the Defense Ministry has said that the flight test of the Rudram-II missile has met all the objectives. The missile has been developed by India and is a solid propellant air-launched missile system, which can destroy various enemy targets. What are the other features of the Rudram-II missile? How can it surprise other countries? Let’s find out.

What is RudraM-II Missile

According to media reports, Rudram-2 missile has been designed by DRDO. It has been manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics and Adani Defence and Aerospace. The range of the missile is up to 300 kilometers, which means Pakistan and China come under its range. It can reach a height of 3 to 15 kilometers and travels five times faster than the speed of sound.

It is claimed that even if it falls 5 meters away from its target, it can completely destroy it. Rudram-2 can fly carrying a weapon weighing about 155 kg. The length of the missile is 18 feet.

According to PTI, the DRDO successfully test fired the air-to-surface Rudram-II missile from the Indian Air Force’s Sukhoi-30 Mk-I platform off the coast of Odisha at around 11:30 am on May 29. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and the Indian Air Force on the successful test of Rudram-II.
He said the successful test has further strengthened the role of Rudram-II system for the armed forces.

This missile has been tested from Sukhoi and it can also be deployed in aircraft like Mig-29, Mirage. The plan is to prepare the missile in other fighter aircraft as well. Since it flies at a very low altitude, it does not come under the radar system or air defense system’s radar.
